Politics in the Philippines has been under the control of a few notable families. It is normal for a politician's son, wife, brother, or other to run for the same or other government office.  The term coined by Filipinos to describe this practice is "Political dynasty", it is prohibited according to Constitution (Article 2, Section 26) provides that: “The State shall guarantee equal access to public service and prohibit political dynasty as may be defined by law.” Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago introduced Senate Bill No. 2649, to pass a law to prohibiting political dynasties. Actually in my own opinion, there’s no wrong with political dynasty especially to those politicians who are qualified, however it is being abused by those who are hungry in power yet without capacity. And I believed that, political dynasty is the root problem of all the corruption in the Philippine government. Political dynasty has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that, If the members of the family running for the position in government, she/he have enough background on politics and well-versed in governance. But the disadvantage of having this system is the tendency of harboring power. We familiarize with the quotation stated that, “Whatever the tree, so is the fruit.” So if corruption finds its way in the family, it is not impossible in the next generation who will inherit the power. So as a registered voter, all I have to do is to vote wisely, vote only for those who deserve my vote.
